A CALLING AND AN ART

At NHC, we believe that teaching is both a calling and an art, and we are very pleased to have a team of highly-educated professionals in our classrooms.

Our teachers experience teaching as a calling; it is missional for them. They honor and serve Christ through teaching and delight to offer a formative education to their students that is more than just imparting knowledge; it is an education in faith, hope, and love.

Teaching is also an art, and our teachers are committed to growing and developing their skill. We provide a robust faculty training program with a significant amount of time set aside each year for professional development.

What does this look like in the classroom? Our faculty are passionate about conveying a love for learning, and they model this love through an excitement for their lessons and a delight when students engage and learn.

At North Hardin Christian School, we cultivate faculty members who:

  • Embody the Portrait of a Graduate.

Our faculty are faithful followers of Jesus Christ, rooted in the Gospel and devoted to a life of spiritual and professional excellence. They are active members of the local church, committed to prayer, the study of Scripture, and humble service. They approach learning with thoughtfulness and integrity, reading deeply, reasoning clearly, and communicating with grace and wisdom. With a spirit of reverence and wonder, they engage the world God has made, pursue beauty, and labor with diligence. Above all, they strive to glorify Christ the King—proclaiming His truth and working for the good of others in all that they do.

  • Foster Respectful Relationships with Students, Parents, and Colleagues

They communicate with grace, address conflict with wisdom and integrity, and refrain from gossip.

  • Exercise authority virtuously.

Faculty demonstrate the courage to address student behavior when necessary, exercising wisdom and discernment to do so in a manner that is both timely and constructive. They do not rely on displays of power or manipulation, but instead use their authority with kindness, integrity, and a sincere commitment to student growth.

  • Submit to authority with humility.

Faculty follow the guidelines outlined in the North Hardin Christian School handbooks and those provided by school leadership. They apply policies and procedures thoughtfully, seeking to understand and uphold the philosophy and purpose behind them.

  • Demonstrate excellence in content and pedagogy.

Faculty possess strong command of both content and pedagogy - the art and practice of teaching, skillfully instructing and assessing students in ways that are both thoughtful and engaging. They intentionally structure classroom time, space, and activities to promote meaningful learning and a peaceful, orderly environment.

  • Commit to ongoing intellectual and spiritual growth.

Faculty actively pursue growth in their own education—deepening their understanding of the Christian tradition, expanding their knowledge of the natural world, and continually developing expertise in their teaching disciplines.
