Philosophy of Education – North Hardin Christian School
Our approach to education is rooted in II Peter 1:5-10, where the Bible calls for growth in faith, virtue, knowledge, self-control, perseverance, godliness, kindness, and love. These qualities ensure that students will grow in their knowledge of Jesus Christ and live fruitful, purposeful lives. Christian education must cultivate these virtues, as they are the foundation for stability and moral strength.
We believe children are a precious gift from God. Educating them is a serious responsibility. Children are intellectual, spiritual, physical, and social beings. Our aim is to educate the whole child, focusing on their spiritual formation as much as their intellectual development. Without understanding their spiritual nature, children cannot fully grasp their purpose in life, and they will miss out on living life as God intends.
Today there is often a divide between sacred and secular. Classical Christian education rejects that separation. We believe that all truth, whether in science, history, or literature, comes from God. We teach every subject with this understanding. Everything in creation points back to the Creator. Our teachers are committed to this perspective, helping students see God’s hand in all aspects of life, from the classroom to their daily experiences.
Colossians 2:8 warns against being led astray by human traditions and worldly thinking, and we take that warning seriously. At North Hardin Christian School, we hold to the Biblical view that God created and sustains the world through His Son, Jesus Christ. All of life is meant to glorify God. Man, in his natural state, is separated from God by sin. Only through Christ’s redemption can people be restored to God’s image. Our education seeks to guide students through this process of restoration by developing them academically, spiritually, socially, and physically.
We focus on teaching students how to learn and that truth is unified. There is no conflict between faith and reason. All learning is connected and points to God’s truth. Every subject is taught with the understanding that God’s Word is the ultimate source of wisdom. We train our students to think critically and to view all of life through a Biblical lens. This education is not just about learning facts; it’s about shaping hearts and minds toward truth and righteousness.
Deuteronomy 6:4-9 tells us that Christian education begins in the home. Parents bear the primary responsibility to teach their children in all aspects of life. North Hardin Christian School supports this by providing a place where children can continue to learn in a God-centered environment. Education is not confined to a classroom. It is a lifelong pursuit that involves constant growth in wisdom and virtue.
North Hardin Christian School is a private Christian institution. While "private" describes our legal status, it is essential to recognize that "Christian" defines our mission. A private school can exist without being Christian, but our identity is grounded in our faith. We are committed to a Classical Christian model of education, which seeks to cultivate wisdom, virtue, and a deep understanding of God’s truth. We emphasize the authority of Scripture, the importance of a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, and the role of discipleship in daily life. Our goal is to prepare students not only for academic success, but for a lifetime of serving God with integrity and purpose. We believe that true education shapes the whole person—heart, soul, mind, and body—to reflect the character of Christ.
