OUR MISSION & DISTINCTIVES
Christ-Centered Education
CHRIST IN ALL THINGS
North Hardin Christian School is intentionally Christ-centered in both curriculum and culture, and instruction at NHC acknowledges that all life, knowledge, and meaning extend from our Creator. From the classroom to the court, our teachers, staff, and coaches are dedicated to our students' spiritual discipleship as they learn, grow, and live in community with one another.
Our Christ-centered curriculum means we do more than simply provide a Bible class among many other classes. Rather, by integrating the Scriptures throughout the curriculum, we present the Lord as the One in whom all knowledge is united. This approach requires that all subjects, whether history, art, music, literature, mathematics, PE, or science, be taught in the light of God’s existence and His revelation to humanity through His Son, Jesus Christ. Because we are created in God’s image, we can appreciate the goodness He has made. But our inherent brokenness, coupled with the pressures of our culture, means that it takes effort to focus on what is true, good, and beautiful. Each day, we engage our students with noble study, nourishing their imaginations so that they will always recognize the truth, beauty, and goodness of God in the world.
TENDING THE GARDEN
This pursuit of truth, beauty, and goodness is coupled with our desire for students to develop a deep, genuine relationship with God through Jesus Christ, becoming vessels to share His love with others. When we consider a student's heart and relationships, we think of a garden. Weeding and pruning are some of the most important things you do to help a garden flourish, and hearts and minds are no different. Our faculty take the time for teachable moments—even when it requires us to step outside of our schedule. We want to understand what’s going on in the hearts of our students, not just modify their behavior. This requires time and attention in the short-term, but we believe that it is worth it. In the long-term, tending the garden will bear good fruit for our students, our school, and our community.
"The Christian ideal has not been tried and found wanting.
It has been found difficult, and left untried."
-G.K. Chesterton
What Does NHC Believe?
North Hardin Christian School believes in the following as part of the basic fundamentals of the historic Christian faith.
The Bible
We believe the Bible to be the inspired, the only infallible, authoritative Word of God (II Timothy 3:16; II Peter 1:19-21).
The Trinity
We believe that there is one God, eternally existent in three persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit (Matt 28:19).
Jesus Christ
We believe in the deity of our Lord Jesus Christ, in His virgin birth, in His sinless life, in His miracles, in His vicarious and atoning death through His shed blood, in His bodily resurrection, in His ascension to the right hand of the Father, and in His personal return in power and glory (Isaiah 7:14; John 1:14).
Salvation
We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, as a representative and substitutionary sacrifice, and that all who believe in Him are justified on the grounds of His shed blood (I Corinthians 15:1-4; Romans 5:1-11).
Call to Discipleship
We believe as Christ's disciples we are to seek to conform our actions, thoughts and desires in obedience to him (Luke 9:23).
Unity
We believe in the spiritual unity and equality of believers in our Lord Jesus Christ. (John 17:20-23).
Marriage, Gender and Human Sexuality
We believe that God designed marriage as a sacred, covenantal union between one man and one woman, intended to be exclusive and lifelong. Sexual intimacy is a gift from God and is reserved for marriage alone. Furthermore, we believe that God creates each person as immutably male or female, and that this divinely ordained biological sex reflects the image and nature of God. (Genesis 2:21–24; Genesis 5:2; Mark 7:21; Romans 1:26–29; 1 Corinthians 6:9, 18–20; Ephesians 5:25–32; Hebrews 13:4)
Statement of Final Authority
The statement of faith does not exhaust the extent of our beliefs. The Bible itself, as the inspired and infallible Word of God that speaks with final authority concerning truth, morality, and the proper conduct of mankind, is the sole and final source of all that we believe. For purposes of the school’s faith, doctrine, practice, policy, and discipline, our Board of Directors is the school’s final interpretive authority on the Bible’s meaning and application.
