ACADEMICS

College Advising

We strive to prepare students for life beyond our walls with the long view in mind. What will our students be like and what choices will they make not only as high school seniors but as college students, professionals, spouses, mothers or fathers, old men or women?

We strive to cultivate a habit of life-long learning that students will carry out into the world, using their education to glorify God and make a difference in their communities, families, churches, and professional lives. For the majority of our students, this cultivation continues with higher education.

Our Head of Upper School works with each student and family to consider the possibilities for life after NHC and to find an institution that can offer the right academic and personal challenges. He also works directly with students to navigate the college application process together, to stay informed and on schedule, and to make college applications a true reflection of who our students are.

STANDARDIZED TESTING

At Veritas School, all students in 8th through 11th grades take the age-appropriate level of the Classic Learning Test (CLT). Of the different standardized tests, we believe that the CLT provides the most accurate and rigorous measure of academic formation, accomplishment, and potential.

Featuring passages selected from great works across a variety of disciplines, the CLT suite of assessments provide a highly accurate and rigorous measure of reasoning, aptitude, and academic formation for students from diverse educational backgrounds. The exams are taken online in just two hours, and give same-day test results. The CLT also provides colleges and secondary schools with detailed information about student learning trends, to facilitate decisions about admissions, curricula, and instruction.

All students in 10th and 11th grade also take the PSAT, and most 12th grade students take the SAT as well.

Veritas students have consistently scored well on the Classic Learning Test and has been ranked in the top 20 schools in the nation on the CLT (11th grade), CLT10 (9th & 10th grades), and CLT 8 (8th grade).

“The end then of learning is to repair the ruins of our first parents by regaining to know God aright, and out of that knowledge to love him, to imitate him, to be like him, as we may the nearest by possessing our souls of true virtue, which being united to the heavenly grace of faith makes up the highest perfection.”
