Snow Day Protocol

Snow Day Protocol

Whenever weather requires NHC Administration to cancel classes for the safety of our faculty and students, we will follow the following procedures:

  • The decision will apply to both campuses - MAIN CAMPUS and EDUCARE. If classes are canceled, all school services will be canceled as well. We cannot provide childcare if classes are canceled. The decision to cancel will be based on the safety of accessing school campuses.
  • Cancellations/Delays will be reported to WHAS11 as soon as a decision is made. School families can subscribe to the school closing alerts, listen to 840 AM radio, watch WHAS11 TV, or check the WHAS website.
  • NHC will send an automated phone call out as soon as the decision is made. Please ensure your accurate phone number is on file with the school office and every party wishing to receive the call is set up for success.
  • We will post the decision on our private FaceBook page once we have completed the ALL Call procedures. Please do not post questions regarding this topic as it becomes confusing to others trying to find our Official Post. Posts will be deleted to help avoid confusion.
  • ADMIN will make every attempt to make the decision by 5 AM; however, it is not always possible to predict with an evolving weather system in the Ohio Valley. The focus will be the safety of accessing our buildings for the school day. We do understand that some families utilize the before care program, but cannot commit to calling the school day at any specific time if weather patterns begin to change at early morning hours. Please be patient with ADMIN as they make these difficult decisions.

On SnowDays, NHC students will be responsible for completing assignments/studying.

  • Students in grades K3-5th Grade have SnowPackets in their backpacks. We will let families know the Packet Number that is to be completed on any canceled day. K3 and K4 students are not required to turn in their packets.
  • Our 6th-12th grade students will login to their Google Classroom to complete assignments provided by teachers.
  • There is NO LIVE LEARNING taking place during SnowDays unless otherwise announced in the cancellation notification for that day.
  • Teachers will send an email to Parents (K5-5th Grade) or Students (6th-12th Grade) by 9 AM with expectations for that day's assignments. Our teachers will be available via email to help students with questions during normal classroom hours. If you are unfamiliar with your teacher’s email address, our standard email pattern is firstname.lastname@nhcky.org
